Marvel's Edgar Rice Burroughs adaptation charges full-speed into subterranean territory with this October 1978 issue, as Tarzan squares off against a horde of savage, blue-skinned sentinels — one wielding a spear, another a hatchet — in a fierce, dynamic battle rendered by cover penciler John Buscema and inker Klaus Janson. A flame-haired, ape-like warrior looms large among the attackers, surrounding the muscular Lord of the Jungle on all sides as the cover promises a showdown at "The Entrance to the Earth's Core!" Inside, "Passage to Pellucidar!" takes Tarzan deep into Burroughs' beloved hollow-earth mythology, written by David Kraft and illustrated by the same Buscema–Janson team — all for just 35 cents.
