Tarzan #13
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe cover of this 1978 Marvel issue — penciled by John Buscema and inked by Tony DeZuniga — delivers a visceral image of Tarzan wearing a lion-head disguise, lunging forward with claws extended against a full moon backdrop while warriors of Mbonga level spears at him. The bold cover copy warns that "your spears will avail you nothing — when the Lion-God strikes!" setting up a tense standoff between the jungle lord and the tribal fighters surrounding him. Roy Thomas adapts Edgar Rice Burroughs' world with evident energy, and this issue's cover alone makes a compelling case for why Tarzan: Lord of the Jungle was one of Marvel's more adventurous titles of the late 1970s.
