Gregory's stomach is growling loud enough to be heard from the chemistry lab—he forgot his lunch money and decides to cook eggs on a Bunsen burner, but gets caught up helping Miss Crabtree with her niece Dumpling at the train station. As the day unfolds, one well-meaning errand leads to another, and poor Gregory finds himself increasingly trapped between his hunger and his inability to say no, culminating in a final twist that puts his appetite in an unexpected place.
