“The Secret of the Martian Helmet”

A striking 1959 DC sci-fi anthology issue, with cover art by Bob Brown depicting a tense standoff between green-skinned aliens and a startled young Earthman. One of the aliens trains a futuristic Z-Beam weapon on the scene while another cries out "Stop! Don't turn on the Z-Beam — the Earthman is my son!", teasing the drama of "Son of King Xanta!" with genuine pulp energy. Tales of the Unexpected #42 is a fine example of DC's imaginative science-fiction storytelling at its 1959 peak, all for just a dime.
