Tales of the Green Hornet #4
In "Targets," the Green Hornet faces a vengeful foe after a failed bust leaves Scarface with a new scar and a burning grudge. With the help of tenement residents, the Hornet outwits a deadly trap set by the escaped criminal, turning Scarface’s ill-gotten cash over to the police—only for a headline to declare the city is using mob money to clean up slums. Written by James Van Hise and illustrated by James Tucker, with inks by John Stangeland and colors by Suzanne Dechnik and Holly Sanfelippo, this 1992 tale blends street-level tension with a sharp social edge, all captured in a striking cover by Eddy Newell.

The Hornet's busting of an alliance of racketeers is not entirely successful, as one criminal appropriately known as Scarface gets away, but the encounter leaves him with a second facial mark, and he vows revenge. A trap is set in the tenement district, and it is only with the assistance of some residents that the masked men escape and leave Scarface and his cash for the police. A Sentinel headline proclaims, "City Uses Mob Money To Clean Up Slums."
