Jacques Tardi's sharp eye for character and atmosphere is on full display in this second volume of Tödliche Spiele, subtitled "Das Verhör" — German for "The Interrogation." The cover, drawn and inked by Tardi himself, crowds a bar scene with a wonderfully motley cast: a buxom waitress, a hulking suited man clutching bottles, a red-nosed clown-like figure, a sharp-dressed observer in green, and a grinning young boy, all rendered in Tardi's distinctive loose, expressive line.
