Marilyn remembers her romance with Eddie, a soldier who eventually leaves her to marry Veda after being convinced that Marilyn's career is declining and incompatible with marriage. Devastated, Marilyn later encounters David, a fellow actor who comforts her and proposes they work together on independent film productions. When the Veterans' Association invites Marilyn to a reunion dance, David encourages her to attend, hoping to rekindle her spirits, but she struggles with the painful memories of Tom (Eddie's wartime identity) and her past love.

Contains 3 stories
Broken Love Song
12 pp · Romance

Marilyn is a carefree young woman who's never wanted to grow up—until she meets Eddie Lennick, a charming cab driver whose warmth and optimism begin to change her heart. As their romance deepens, Marilyn's childish ways catch up with her: she impulsively spends her living money on a coat, faces eviction, and struggles when Eddie suggests she take a job to support herself. Watch as love tests whether Marilyn can finally grow up, or if her reluctance to face adult responsibility will cost her the one person who matters most.

Tears for Tom
8 pp · Romance

When Veda's fiancé Tom died in the war, she wrapped herself in public mourning—until a charming newcomer named David Spence arrives and shows her something she'd almost forgotten: the possibility of genuine happiness. As Veda finds herself drawn to David and the life they might share, she discovers that some masks are harder to drop than others, and that the truth has a way of surfacing when you least expect it.

A Farewell to Happiness
10 pp · Romance

When Edith Hagen inherits her uncle's farm in the small town of Everdale, she carries with her a bitter need to provoke and antagonize everyone around her—a hunger for reaction that has defined her lonely life. But her caustic ways begin to shift when a kind stranger helps her rescue a trapped calf, and in that moment of genuine tenderness, she discovers something far more compelling than the sting of others' indignation. As the sun sets on a perfect afternoon, Edith finds herself caught between the familiar comfort of her old, cutting ways and the unfamiliar warmth of a connection that promises something deeper.
