A woman named Nola is promoted to foreman at a factory, a position she sees as an opportunity to prove herself, but her ambition causes her to neglect her boyfriend Rod. When Rod discovers she's been lying about her whereabouts and confronts her, Nola runs away, only to be brought back by the police. After initially blaming Rod for her troubles, Nola eventually reconciles with him at Ross Lake, where they reaffirm their love for one another.
