Swan Songs #6

The sixth and final chapter of W. Maxwell Prince's Swan Songs — subtitled "poems about endings" — arrives with a cover illustration by Martín Morazzo that perfectly captures the series' wry, melancholy spirit: a disheveled young woman is led forward by an aggressive swan toward a sign promising "Free Ice Cream This Way," while a grinning skeleton dangles from her hand like an impatient companion. It's a quietly absurd image of being pulled in two directions at once — toward small earthly pleasures and toward something more final — rendered in Morazzo's crisp black-and-white line work. A fitting send-off for one of 2024's most distinctive comics.
