Swamp Thing #9

The ninth installment of Floris Oudshoorn's Swamp Thing series from Dutch publisher Syndikaat arrives with a cover that's hard to miss — a manic, grinning cartoon creature in blue shorts clutches a can and leaps wildly across a fiery red background, its enormous shadow looming ominously behind it. Oudshoorn, who handles every creative role himself, brings his distinctive anarchic linework to this 2017 entry subtitled "Zwevende kippen" ("Floating Chickens"). It's a wonderfully chaotic image that captures the irreverent, anything-goes energy that makes this homegrown Dutch series such a singular treat.
