Swamp Thing #40

Part of DC's New 52 line, this May 2015 issue closes out a chapter of Charles Soule's run with the story "Reboot" — and Jesús Saiz's cover makes a striking case for what's at stake. Swamp Thing looms at the center of a dense, teeming mass of elemental creatures — reptilian, fungal, and plant-based beings with glowing red eyes crowding every corner — while a massive blue figure dominates the background, all of it rendered in Saiz's richly textured greens and blues. It's a cover that captures the Green at its most overwhelming, hinting at a "Season's End" that feels genuinely momentous.
