The cover by Doug Mahnke and Dennis Janke says it all: Superman is swarmed by a mob of red-eyed robots bearing his own likeness, their metallic fists flying against a fiery golden backdrop as he strains to fight them off from every angle. "Robots Run Riot!" blazes across the top, and the image earns that headline — the sheer mass of Superman-shaped machines piling onto the Man of Steel makes for a genuinely thrilling composition. Writer Mark Schultz and the Mahnke/Janke art team were clearly in fine form for this May 1999 chapter of Superman: The Man of Steel.
