Superman: Doomed #2

The cover of this New 52 conclusion to the Superman: Doomed event is a visceral image: a monstrous, Doomsday-transformed Superman — suit torn, red eyes blazing, fanged jaw gaping — looms at the center, while an enormous, mechanically winged figure (Brainiac, by all appearances) towers ominously behind him, tendrils snaking through an eerie green atmosphere. Guillem March's cover art captures a Man of Steel teetering between hero and monster with real dramatic weight. Writers Greg Pak and Charles Soule, alongside a sprawling artistic team, bring the four-part "Last Sun" arc to its close in this November 2014 issue — and the cover alone makes clear the stakes are enormous.
