This January 2016 issue presents a striking, moody portrait of a battered Superman crouched amid crumbling rubble and cascading debris, sporting a darkened costume with a prominent chest emblem — a hero who looks pushed well past his limits. The cover by John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson frames him from above, a lone hanging lamp casting a cold beam down into the wreckage around him, giving the whole scene a quietly desperate weight. Writer Gene Luen Yang and artist Howard Porter bring their run on the Man of Steel to what promises to be a gut-punch of an installment.
