“Say Goodbye”

Superman #153 brings the Man of Steel face-to-face with the colossal threat of Imperiex, as the cover's bold tagline warns: "And with Imperiex there shall come an end to all!" Ian Churchill and Norm Rapmund deliver a striking cover image — a battered, determined Superman driving his fist toward a massive armored figure wreathed in fire and crackling energy against a star-filled backdrop. Writer Jeph Loeb, artist Mike McKone, and inker Marlo Alquiza make this February 2000 issue one charged with high-stakes tension that's hard to put down.
