“The Family with the X-Ray Eyes”

From 1958, this ten-cent DC gem features Curt Swan's pencils and Stan Kaye's inks bringing a delightfully offbeat domestic scenario to life: Superboy stands wide-eyed and alarmed as his father uses x-ray vision to light a cigar and his mother effortlessly roasts a dinner with her newly acquired super-sight — all while the Boy of Steel frets that his own super-vision has been lost in the process. The cover's speech bubbles do a wonderful job of playing the absurdity completely straight, making "The Family with the X-Ray Eyes" one of those irresistibly charming Silver Age setups that only Superboy's world could deliver.
