Something dark and turbulent is stirring in New York City in this June 2014 installment of DC's New 52 Superboy, subtitled "The Darkness Among Us!" Ken Lashley's cover depicts Superboy in his black-and-red costume surging forward through a swirling vortex of crimson energy, debris, and shattered pavement — a torn NYC newspaper scatters at his feet while panicked bystanders recoil in the background. It's a visceral, kinetic image that sets up writer Aaron Kuder and artist Jorge Jiménez Moreno's interior story, "Forget the Past," with just the right charge of unease and urgency.
