Part of DC's 1995 "Underworld Unleashed" crossover event, this issue plunges Superboy into genuine danger — the cover by Tom Grummett and Karl Kesel shows the young hero encased in jagged shards of glowing blue ice, dwarfed by the looming, red-eyed face of Neron dominating the background with an unsettling calm. The stark contrast between Superboy's vibrant red-and-blue costume and the cold, crystalline trap makes for a striking image that perfectly suits the story's title, "Fire and Ice!" Karl Kesel and Grummett were clearly firing on all cylinders during this era of the series.
