This March 1946 Dell anthology brings together a terrific lineup of newspaper-strip favorites — Dick Tracy, Smitty, Orphan Annie, Tiny Tim, Winnie Winkle, and Harold Teen — each spotlighted in portrait panels along the right-hand side. The cover by Chester Gould puts the tension front and center: a man in a green hat brandishes a gun beside a gleaming red automobile caught in a harrowing near-collision between a truck and a train at a railroad crossing, signals snapping and barriers splintering. For a dime, 1946 readers got a genuine sampler of the era's most beloved comic-strip characters packed into one action-charged package.
