Srg. Joel Cannon von der Planten-Patrouille erhält kurz vor seiner Pension einen "leichten Auftrag". Eine Erkundung im Capella-System um eine mögliche Invasion der Alloreaner aufzudecken. Dort bringt ihn Allure-Dav mit Hilfe eines Gedankenkontrollsessels unter seine Kontrolle, lässt ihn aber anschließend fliehen um ihn zu jagen. Dabei erfährt Joel wie man die seltsamen Waffen der Alloreaner benutzt und kann das ausnutzen.
