“The Super Energy Pills”

Dick Tracy dangles from a chain high above the city rooftops, mid-swing in a tense urban standoff — Chester Gould's cover art captures the square-jawed detective at his most daring, suit and green-banded hat intact even in the thick of danger. Alongside Tracy, the right-side portrait panels showcase the ensemble cast sharing these pages: Smitty, Orphan Annie, Tiny Tim, Winnie Winkle, and Harold Teen, a reminder of just how much comic-strip talent Dell packed into this October 1946 anthology. For a dime, readers got a rooftop thrill and a full lineup of beloved newspaper strip favorites all under one cover.
