David Lapham's raw, street-level crime series gets a handsome collected edition with this first volume, Innocence of Nihilism. The cover — drawn and inked by Lapham himself — puts us right in the thick of things: a tense close-quarters scene with several figures crowded together, expressions taut with fear and menace, rendered in Lapham's gritty, noir-inflected linework. If you've never experienced Stray Bullets, this 2014 El Capitan/Image collection is a compelling place to start.
