“Prelude: On The Beach”

In "Prelude: On The Beach," Terry Moore crafts a quiet yet charged moment in Strangers in Paradise #8, where Francine and Marie find Katchoo at a Nashville hospital, clinging to life but emotionally distant. As tension simmers in the sterile room, Tambi’s silent threat looms, and a raw confrontation between Katchoo and Francine leaves both shaken—fractures forming where trust once stood. With Moore’s distinctive art and storytelling, the issue lingers in the space between words, building quiet dread with every glance and unspoken choice.

Francine and Marie track Katchoo to a local Nashville hospital. She is alive but seems dead inside. Francine stays with her and falls asleep. Tambi silently enters the room and threatens Francine and her family if Katchoo doesn’t come back to work with her. The next morning, Katchoo has a shouting match with Francine that has Francine leaving in tears. And a large part of Katchoo’s heart dies in the process.
