An underground terrorist organization led by the Okhrana plots three coordinated attacks—explosives, arms and ammunition, and propaganda—against Grand Duke Sergei, with an informant named Valentine at the center of their conspiracy. When the plot is discovered and their ranks depleted, the remaining terrorists pursue Valentine for betrayal, while a climactic confrontation in the Himalayan mountains ensues involving the characters Charles, Helfand, and Rod, with one man ultimately going over a cliff edge. The story concludes with a violent struggle where a young boy fights alongside adults against enemies, including a reference to "Robin Hood," amid themes of sacrifice and warfare.
