Nick Stakal's cover for this 2007 Image series tells a quietly devastating story on its own — a ragged, dark-haired young woman sits huddled on the ground, knees drawn to her chest, surrounded by scattered human skulls. The starkly minimal white background puts every bit of weight on her worn clothing and weary posture, radiating exhaustion and hard-won survival. Rick Remender's Strange Girl continues to be one of Image's most emotionally grounded series, and this fourteenth issue promises more of the grim, human-scale storytelling that defines it.
