With the power to grant three wishes, the climber—Bill—uses his first to stop the rain during a picnic, only to find the skies dry across the entire Earth. When he wishes it back, he’s left with one wish remaining, and a growing tension with his girl, who’s unimpressed by his "joking." Written by Gardner Fox and illustrated by Gil Kane, with inks by Bernard Sachs and lettering by Gaspar Saladino, this 1959 tale of cosmic mischief features a cover by Gil Kane and Frank Giacoia.
In "Genie in the Flying Saucer," a mountain climber uncovers a frozen flying saucer and frees a pink alien whose centuries-long imprisonment grants him the power to grant three wishes. When Bill uses his first wish to stop the rain during a picnic, the skies go dry across the entire planet—leading to a frantic second wish to restore it. With his girlfriend growing annoyed by his antics, he tries to prove himself by wishing he could show her what he’s capable of—only to transform into an alien. The final wish brings him back to normal, but the mystery lingers: did he really only have three wishes, or did he briefly wield powers beyond counting?
In 2260, a 1960 almanac bound for a future archive is torn from time by a bomb blast—sent hurtling back to the past. In 1960, a hobo finds it, narrowly escaping a train wreck, only to stumble into a series of misfortunes that seem to mock any chance of changing history. When he discovers a mention of a wonder metal invented by a man named Thomas Baxter, he stumbles upon a truth that rewrites his own past—and his future. By year’s end, he seals the almanac in a time capsule, setting in motion a chain that will one day return it to the future, where its return is met with quiet relief.
