"Trial by Battle!" follows Straight Arrow as he saves the Osage maiden Bluecloud from death at the hands of tribesmen; when Big Feather, a rival warrior, threatens to kill Bluecloud with a broken spear, Straight Arrow must face the dread redman in combat to resolve the conflict. "The Vengeance of the Weasel" depicts Red Hawk's exposure of a weasel thief stealing food during winter famine, leading him to set a death trap for the chief's daughter—until Red Hawk teaches the chief grim respect for vengeance. A third story, "Red Hawk," shows thieves stealing precious furs and meat from winter stores, with Red Hawk pursuing them through the snow.
Straight Arrow saves the fierce Osage maiden Bluecloud from her own tribe, only to find himself tangled in a dangerous mystery—she's witnessed a murder that could topple a chief. When Bluecloud's accusations spark a trial by combat, Straight Arrow must face Big Feather in three deadly tests to prove her word true, all while an enemy works behind the scenes to ensure the Comanche warrior falls.
In "Bait for the Hangman's Noose!", Jo finds herself at the center of a dangerous game when three eager suitors take up her challenge: capture the outlaw Snabba Pilen and win her hand. With the frontier law hanging in the balance, each man rides into the unknown, chasing glory and love—though not all who ride will return.
