“The Ghost Has No Home”

Part of Marvel's 1996 X-Men limited series, this issue pits Storm against the mutant collective Gene Nation — and the cover by Terry Dodson and Karl Kesel makes that confrontation feel genuinely electric. Storm dominates the composition in her dark bodysuit, white hair blazing as she raises a defiant fist, while a chaotic tangle of grotesque Gene Nation figures — monstrous, misshapen, and snarling — surge up around her and a gold-armored figure caught in the melee. The tagline "If Vengeance Be Mine…" sets a tense, dramatic mood that pairs well with Warren Ellis at the helm of the interior story.
