Charles Dickens's Nicholas Nickleby is adapted in comic form, following Nicholas as he escapes the clutches of his cruel uncle Ralph and the abusive Dotheboys Hall school. The story progresses through Nicholas's adventures involving Smike's true parentage—revealed to be the neglected son of Mr. Snawley—and conflicts with the scheming Squeers, culminating in the recovery of Nicholas's bride Madeline Bray and the exposure of various villanies involving robbery and deception.
