Steel faces down a point-blank gunshot in this March 1997 issue, the cover by Dave Johnson staging the confrontation inside a grimy sewer tunnel — a fallen figure in camouflage gear fires directly at Steel's armored chest while the Man of Steel looms above, red-eyed and hammer in hand, red cape spreading dramatically behind him. It's a tense, close-quarters image that sets a gritty, street-level tone for the story titled "Home." Writer Christopher Priest, artist Denys Cowan, and inker Tom Palmer bring their considerable talents to bear on what promises to be a charged chapter in John Henry Irons' world.
