In a rain-soaked Hollywood night, studio clerks Starlet O'Hara and Fritzi find themselves riding home with star Gary Brant, spinning a tall tale about their glamorous lives. When their cover slips during a claim about sharing a luxury apartment with him, they quickly ditch their roles and don disguises as maids to slip away—only to find themselves in a whole new kind of trouble.

Starlet O'Hara and Fritzi scheme to get discovered at the Brown Derby, enlisting newsboy Danny and his friends to ask for autographs—only to panic when they realize they don’t have the ten dollars they promised. Chaos erupts when the boys demand payment, leading to a wild brawl that catches the eye of producer Ham Glitter, who makes an unexpected discovery.

When Moronica takes pity on Seabiscuit, a horse drenched in the rain, she brings him into her apartment—setting off a whirlwind of chaos. With Miss Biddy and Mr. Crump nearby, Moronica somehow manages to stay out of trouble, even as the situation spirals.

Starlet O'Hara and Fritzi take pity on a struggling flower seller, offering her a place to stay at the Studio Club—only to find themselves tangled in a misadventure when they try to sneak her into the studio. With the gate guard on high alert and the director unexpectedly drawn to the newcomer, the girls end up stuck in the mailroom while someone else gets their big break.

When a policeman tells Moronica she must obey every sign or face jail, she takes the warning with comically literal zeal—stocking up on a mountain of consumer goods simply because the signs said to. Her enthusiasm knows no bounds, but the fine print on the receipts? That’s a whole other story.
