Star Wars: The Force Awakens Adaptation #6 closes the first Marvel Comics sequential-art retelling of a sequel-trilogy Star Wars film, placing the comic medium firmly in the new Disney-era Lucasfilm canon. As the issue that translates the climax of Episode VII — Rey's first lightsaber duel with Kylo Ren and the destruction of Starkiller Base — into static panels, it completes what StarWars.com described as a direct creative heir to the Roy Thomas/Howard Chaykin Original Trilogy adaptations of the 1970s. The six-issue miniseries was formally announced by Marvel at the ComicsPRO 2016 annual meeting, with Chuck Wendig — already the author of the Aftermath prose trilogy — chosen as writer after his earlier collaboration with Marvel on the Hyperion ongoing series. In a StarWars.com interview, Wendig described the adaptation challenge as 'a master class' in compression, noting that translating a film to sequential panels required preserving emotional beats while inevitably losing material that only the cinematic format could carry. The series was edited by Heather Antos and supervised by Jordan D. White, with colors by Frank Martin Jr. and Guru-eFX and lettering by Clayton Cowles. Issue #6 shipped November 9, 2016, carrying a January 2017 cover date.
