This volume collects the four-issue miniseries Star Wars: Darklighter, which follows Biggs Darklighter, a childhood friend of Luke Skywalker, as he defects from the Empire and joins the Rebel Alliance. Set just prior to the events of A New Hope, it explores his journey from Imperial cadet to X-wing pilot, culminating in his heroic sacrifice during the Battle of Yavin. The collection includes the complete story by writer Paul Ens and artist John Nadeau, originally published in 1998.
