Star Trek: Waypoint #2
In "The Menace of the Mechanitrons," Yeoman Leslie Thompson—remembered only for her brief, tragic fate on an away mission—reflects on the alternate paths she might have taken, her thoughts echoing through time to inspire a young Kathryn Janeway at Starfleet Academy. Written by Sam Maggs and brought to life with expressive art by Rachael Stott and vibrant colors by Mark Roberts, this poignant tale explores legacy, memory, and the quiet impact of one woman’s story. The cover, by David Malan, captures the moment with a haunting, reflective grace.

A story about Yeoman Leslie Thompson, the only female red shirt to die on an away mission under Captain Kirk during the original five year mission. Leslie, from beyond death, imagines how she could have played a more pivotal role in some of the Enterprise's historic missions. Unfortunately, all she is remembered for is her death, and her name is inscribed on a memorial at Starfleet Academy. This provides inspiration to other women at the academy, including a young Kathryn Janeway.
