DC's "New Format" Star Trek series hits its second issue with a genuinely gripping cover — a snarling Klingon warrior looms large in the foreground, claws raised, as two Starfleet officers at a bridge console react to a Klingon Bird-of-Prey visible through the viewport behind them. The tension practically crackles off the page, with Jerome Moore's pencils and inks doing fine work capturing both the alien menace up close and the cold expanse of space beyond. Written by Peter David with art by James Fry and inks by Arne Starr, "The Sentence" promises the kind of Federation-Klingon friction that made this era of Trek so compelling in 1989.
