Star Slammers #1
Walter Simonson’s *Star Slammers #1* kicks off with a high-stakes prison-in-space thriller: Commander Rojas, held in stasis aboard the Imperial Cruiser Meredith, is guarded by the elite Space Bulls under Colonel Phaedra as the ship returns to the Minoan Empire for execution. When a Skye assassin infiltrates the vessel and begins eliminating the guards, Rojas escapes his confinement and turns the tables—just as the first chapter of a deadly game reaches its climax. With Simonson handling every aspect of the interior art and inks, and Catie Jellinghaus, Electric Prism, and Nanette Mahler contributing to the vibrant coloring, the issue’s visual intensity matches its tense narrative. The cover, also by Simonson, captures the moment’s gravity with sharp, dramatic detail.
