Jessica tries to play matchmaker between Joe and her sister Karen, but finds she is becoming to fond of Joe. When Mrs. Tybard invites Jessica to stay with her in Cornwall for a few weeks, Jessica sees it as a way of giving Karen the opportunity to develop a relationship with Joe. Jessica had played with Mrs. Tybard's sons, Bruce and Terry, growing up and she had been Bruce's childhood sweetheart. When Terry is reported drowned in Canada, Mrs. Tybard receives news that Bruce is returning to Cornwall.
