The death of Maidie's sister hits her hard because Ruth had taken care of her and made all the decisions after their mum died. The family doctor chastises Maidie and tries to get her to accept more responsibility for her life, but it's not until she meets Peter that she starts to be happy again. Then she learns that Peter had taken Ruth out the night she died.
