Star Love Stories in Pictures #786
In "The Proud One," Sarah—best known for her witty, heartfelt "Annie Apple" column—takes a break from her usual beat and stumbles upon Biggle Bay, where she finds herself drawn to Alan, the principled owner of a struggling local restaurant. When she tries to help by writing a piece that highlights his plight, Alan resists, valuing dignity over pity, sparking a quiet but heartfelt conflict. Jaime González’s expressive art brings the story’s emotional nuance to life, while Jac Mars’ cover captures the moment’s delicate tension.

Sarah's weekly "Annie Apple" column was gossipy, funny, charming and featured what she considered to be her "good cause". But she decides she needs a rest so she goes to Biggle Bay, which she picked off the map with a pin. She falls for the owner of the struggling owner of the local restaurant there. She thinks she can help him by writing a column about the restaurant, but Alan doesn't want people to come out of a sense of charity. Sarah calls her editor to stop the story from being printed, but when it is published anyway it causes friction between Alan and Sarah.
