An important manager in the music business books a small hotel run by Beth's father to get a few days rest. Meanwhile Beth's boyfriend has been studying him and choreographs a meeting between Cliff and Beth that he thinks will get him interested in her. When it works, Roger uses Beth to get Cliff to listen to a tape he made of them singing together. The plan backfires when it turns out it is Beth's voice that is special, not his. Beth comes to resent Roger's manipulation and starts to fall for Cliff, but worries that the deceptive way they met will ruin their relationship.
