After Cindy's family moves to Canada, her father is hit by a car and killed. Philip's mother had been driving the car and, afraid she would be charged with manslaughter since there were no witnesses to confirm her story, she did not report it to the police. Philip felt they should report the accident, but agreed not to for the sake of his mother who had a bad heart. When he discovers that the dead man's daughter works in the dress department of the store his family owns, he anonymously works to help her family financially and gets her started as a model.
