Stålmannen #9/1979
In "Stålmannens ursprung," Stålmannen faces his first major test as he halts an execution, thwarts a human trafficking ring, and rescues Lois Lane from kidnappers—only to be sent on a dangerous war assignment to San Monte under his Clark Kent identity. Written by Jerry Siegel and illustrated by Joe Shuster, this 1979 issue marks a pivotal moment in the character's early story, with lettering by Birgit Lundborg and a cover by an unknown artist.
"Stålmannens ursprung" follows the journey of a young alien from a dying planet, sent to Earth where he is adopted by the Kents and raised as their own. As he grows, he discovers his extraordinary powers and begins to forge his identity as a hero, first as Superboy and then as the mighty Superman.
In the story "null," a lone rocketship escapes the destruction of Krypton, carrying an infant to a new world. Found by the Kents on Earth, the child is raised as their own, unaware of his origins—until the truth begins to unfold.
In a quiet moment of desperation, Clark Kent applies for a job at Dagsstjärnan—only to be turned down. But when Stålmannen intervenes to stop a lynch mob, his heroic act earns him a spot on the paper’s staff. Soon after, he draws a shocking confession from singer Bea Carroll about the assassination of Jack Kennedy.
In "null," Stålmannen races against time to stop Evelyn Curry’s execution, thwart a human trafficking ring, and rescue Lois Lane from kidnapper Butch Matson—all before taking on a new assignment as Clark Kent to report from the war-torn nation of San Monte.
In "null," Stålmannen confronts weapons manufacturer Emil Norvell on a warzone, forcing him to abandon arms production. With determination and resolve, Stålmannen also intervenes to halt the execution of Lois Lane and bring an end to the ongoing conflict.
