Squadron Supreme #14
This 2017 Marvel issue plants the Squadron Supreme firmly beneath the waves, with a brooding, powerfully built figure — trident symbol on his belt, a glowing golden artifact raised above his head — commanding the center of an underwater scene surrounded by two blue-skinned attendants and drifting tropical fish. Alex Garner's painted cover work gives the whole composition a rich, luminous quality, the deep greens and purples of the ocean depths contrasting beautifully with the warm gold of the central figure's gauntlets and crown-like object. With the tagline "Protecting the Marvel Universe by Any Means Necessary" looming overhead, this issue promises the Squadron operating in morally complex territory — wherever the depths may take them.
