Auf einer kleinen Insel, die von Fischern bewohnt wird, ist der alte Pedros der Glöckner der Stadt. Eines Tages bricht der Vulkan auf der Insel aus. Die Dorfbewohner werden evakuiert und fahren aufs Meer hinaus. Der alte Pedros aber bleibt in der Kirche. "Die Glocken müssen geläutet werden", sagt er sich. Irgendjemand wird es hören. Seit Jahrhunderten hat es immer jemand gehört!" Geschmolzenes Gestein strömt auf die Kirche zu. Bevor es den alten Pedros erreicht, umgibt ihn ein Sonnenstrahl. Die abergläubischen Dorfbewohner schwören, sie hätten ihn auf diesem Strahl in den Himmel reiten sehen.
