Spellbound #20

Among Atlas Comics' finest horror anthologies of 1954, this issue of Spellbound promises "Stories to Hold You" — and Russ Heath's cover makes good on that tagline immediately. A blonde woman recoils in terror as a grotesque, goggle-eyed creature lunges at her amid a graveyard, the two of them encircled by massive coiling green tentacles while a shadowy skull-faced figure lurks in the background. It's a masterfully unsettling composition from Heath, and inside, Bob Powell brings his own considerable talents to "The Last Man" and the issue's other tales of dread.
