Spellbound #18

Atlas Comics' pre-Code anthology Spellbound delivers a genuinely unsettling cover from Bill Everett — a snarling, ghoulish creature creeps through a bedroom doorway, clawed hand outstretched, while a terrified man recoils in his bed, the story title "Sleep My Love!" making the whole scene deliciously ominous. Small vignette panels along the left tease additional tales inside, including "Terror in Time!," "When the Martians Strike!," and "The City!" — a solid promise of variety for 1953 readers hungry for chills. For fans of Golden Age horror anthologies, this issue is a fine example of the genre firing on all cylinders.
