Spectacular Spider-Man #1
A bold relaunch of one of Marvel's most beloved Spider-Man titles, this first issue kicks off "The Hunger" with a cover by Humberto Ramos and Wayne Faucher that immediately sets a menacing tone — a red-and-blue-clad Spider-Man is caught in the crushing grip of a massive, slavering Venom, the symbiote villain's jagged maw and enormous form dominating the golden-hued background. Writer Paul Jenkins teams with artist Humberto Ramos to bring fresh energy to Spidey's world in 2003, and if this striking image is any indication, the web-slinger is already in serious trouble before the story even begins.

Detective Garrett investigates a series of murders where all of the victims have puncture marks on their backs and their bodies have been stripped clean of adrenaline. Eddie seeks forgiveness from a priest for past sins. Peter, May and Liz gather at the hospital to watch the bandages being taken off of the face of the badly injured and mostly comatose Flash Thompson. Spider-Man gets into a brawl with Venom, only to find out that the symbiote is traveling around without its human host.
