Gilbert Hernandez's Speak of the Devil reaches its midpoint with this third installment in the six-issue Dark Horse series. The cover is immediately arresting: a blonde woman in a black bra top and red leggings stands beside — or perhaps belongs to — a looming devil-horned shadow with glowing red eyes, the two figures connected by a barely-touching hand. Hernandez's clean, bold linework gives the image a quietly unsettling intimacy that makes you want to know exactly what that shadow represents to her.
