This December 1947 anthology packs a full 64 pages of action into one dime-priced package, and Charles Nicholas's cover sets the mood perfectly — a trench-coated figure hauls a struggling blonde woman toward a heavy stone archway while a uniformed officer closes in from behind with a raised nightstick, and a desperate face peers through a barred window above the tense street scene. The cobblestone alley, gas lantern, and grim stonework give the whole composition a wonderfully atmospheric noir edge.
