In the first story, Slate and Sluggo encounter a stranger heading to an old Luther place in the countryside, then discover he is a criminal fleeing the scene of a robbery at the Palace Hotel; the story concludes with police being called. The second story, "Strange As It Seems" by Ernest Hix, presents a historical vignette about medieval knights using plate armor formations on the battlefield to facilitate combat, illustrated with a boxing champion named Stanley Ketchel and a "hobo champ" in Marysville, California in 1907.
